Wanted mail was blocked

Find the message on the Mail page of the console, release it with Release + not spam so the filter learns, and if the sender is trusted add them under Allowed senders. Check the Filter decision on the message to see which check blocked it.

Get the message delivered

  1. On the Mail page of the console, find the message in Spam, Phishing, Viruses or Discarded. See Review blocked mail.
  2. Open it and select Release + not spam. The message is delivered and the filter learns that mail like it is wanted.

See Release a blocked message for releasing several messages.

Find out why it was blocked

Open the message and read its Filter decision. It shows the verdict and, for spam, each check that added to the score. Common causes:

  • The sender's own mail setup is broken. Failing SPF, DKIM or DMARC means the sender's domain does not authorise the server that sent the message. Tell the sender; their mail is likely blocked elsewhere too.
  • The sending server is on a public blocklist. The sender's provider needs to resolve that.
  • The content looks like spam. Release it with Release + not spam so the filter learns.

Stop it happening again

If the sender is someone you trust, add them under Allowed senders, for one domain or one mailbox. Their mail then skips the spam and phishing checks but is still scanned for malware. See Allow a sender.

If one check blocks a lot of wanted mail, consider setting it to Score instead of Block in Filter config. See Change the filter's detection settings.

The message is not on the Mail page

If the message is in none of the folders, search for it in Log search. See Find a message and prove it was delivered.
